The goal of our group SAMOV, ( Slovak acronym for American Civil War Society), is to relive as closely as possible the true, everyday experience of the Civil War soldier.
We are trying to study, to the minute detail the life style of that era, which we apply in our living history encampments and reenactments abroad. In our camps we follow the manners, music, cooking and diet of combatants of almost 150 years ago. The emphasis is given on maneuvring in authentic uniforms and weapon drill, with commands given in English naturally.
SAMOV tries to emulate the chain of command, respect to the commander, and camp talk in the spirit of that era. Not allowed in camp are modern items as plastics, pre-packaged foods, insect sprays, lighters, e.t.c. They did not exist then.
Our most ambitious goal is to participate at the 150-th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg reenactment in 2013.
When not in field, we are busy preparing and maintaining our equipment and ammunition, in translating of related literature from English, and in overall improvement of our favorite hobby.
